Prepare time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
Yield: 4 cups Taco Truck Green Sauce Recipe
- Large saucepan
- Food Processor
- 3-quart saucepan
- 2 qt 4-quart saucepan
- 1 cup Yellow onion, diced
- 1 clove Garlic, minced
- 1 Jalapeño pepper, seeded and diced (Use more if you want a spicier sauce)
- ½ cup Cilantro leaves, packed tightly and chopped (Reserve some of the stem for garnish)
- ½ teaspoon Lemon zest
- 1 Lime, juiced.
- 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Oregano
- ½ teaspoon Turmeric
- 1 Cup Tomato, passata, or crushed tomatoes
- ¼ cup Lime juice (About 2 limes)
Step 1: Start by preparing the ingredients. Add the garlic and jalapeno pepper to a food processor and chop them up well. Do not overwork the garlic, or you will have a pasty texture.
Step 2: Add the yellow onion and cilantro to the food processor and some lime juice. It helps to add a little until you get it to your preferred consistency. Play around with the ingredients until you have achieved your perfect mix. Add turmeric for extra flavor and a bit of a boost.
Step 3: Pour the ingredients into a large saucepan and mix well. Could you bring it to a boil over medium heat? Once the mixture starts bubbling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer covered for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Allow the mixture to cool and pour into a blender. Add water if you prefer a thinner consistency, but keep in mind that you will not be able to strain out all of the tiny pieces easily. Blend until smooth.
Step 5: Serve tacos or use them as a dipper on chips, hot dogs, or French fries. Garnish with some cilantro if desired.
