How to make Stacey’s Hamburger Seasoning
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup onion, minced
- 1/2 cup celery, minced
- 1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
- 3 Tbsp. paprika or Italian Seasoning or a mix of both (I used McCormick Italian Seasoning, but any combination would work)
- 1 tsp. dry mustard (I used Mrs. Dash Chipotle)
- 3 Tbsp. melted butter or olive oil
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a pan and then add minced vegetables and spices to the pan with a little salt and pepper to taste.
2. Cook for about 10 minutes until the onions are translucent.
3. Remove from heat and let cool completely (it will get thick).
4. Mix in 3 Tbsp. Soy sauce and 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
5 . Place in blender or food processor to puree into a smooth mixture that is a little finer than sand but bigger than salt (use as little liquid as possible).
6. Put the pureed mixture on a plate and mix in mustard and more salt and pepper to taste.
7. Heat on a pan for about 3 minutes until warm but not hot.
8 . Cool completely before storing in an airtight container (I used small mason jars).
This recipe is so simple and will make every burger tastier. It makes a lot, so I used my Vitamix to puree it into a fine mixture that I could put in jars. The final product was big enough to fill several small jars (and I made two jars of each flavor).

Nutrition facts of Stacey’s Hamburger Seasoning
I will compare the cost of buying this Seasoning from the grocery store and then making your own. The store-bought Seasoning has 7 grams of salt per serving, and the homemade version is between 1 gram and 2 grams (depending on how much salt you put in).
I’m using numbers from EatCheapAndHealthy.com’s post on Making Your Seasoning Blends. The store-bought had 2 servings per container, making it around 3.5 $/serving.
Health Benefits of Stacey’s Hamburger Seasoning
There are no salt or preservatives in the store-bought version, but there is a lot of sodium in the homemade version (1.2 grams per serving).
There is also a third ingredient that isn’t listed on the nutrition label, which is unidentified (but it seems to be salt -1 gram total).
The homemade version also has more ingredients that you can pronounce than the store-bought Seasoning. For almost every food I tried, the homemade version tasted best.
Can I Freeze It?
Even though I used my Vitamix to puree the mixture, it’s still better to keep it in the jar. Since it is a powder, you can put it just about anywhere.
It’s good for making homemade french fries and substituting with salt and olive oil (1/8 cup of olive oil and 1/8 tsp. of salt).
You can mix it with breadcrumbs (make a paste first) to make patties or meatballs or use it as a dry rub on chicken and fish.
Is It Healthy?
Here are the nutrition facts for Stacey’s Hamburger Seasoning (the one found at Stacey’s Restaurant).
I took the numbers from EatCheapAndHealthy.com’s post on Making Your Seasoning Blends. The chart shows how many calories each serving of the original formula and how much salt is in each serving. Calories: 6.
How to store?
I used to keep a tin of this in my home, but since I make all homemade food, now I store it in airtight jars. It keeps well for months in the fridge.
Cost Breakdown
The cost of the ingredients is listed below as they are on EatCheapAndHealthy.com’s post on Making Your Seasoning Blends.
Even though this Seasoning is probably cheaper to make than to buy, it’s still cheaper than buying these spices individually or at a restaurant to put in the burger.
The Bottom Line
Stacey’s Hamburger Seasoning is a nice change from the normal burger seasonings. The ingredients are simple, and the flavors are strong, making the food taste better.
It’s just enough spice without being overpowering. This Seasoning goes great with burgers, fries, chicken, and more! Here you can see the blackened spice in action:
