Description

A tender, whole-head cabbage slow-cooked in a luxurious blend of garlic, parmesan cheese, and zesty lemon butter for a savory and comforting side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Remove outer leaves from the cabbage and trim the stem so the head sits flat.
  2. Cut a deep cross (X) into the top of the cabbage, slicing about halfway down.
  3. In a bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Stir in the lemon juice, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  5. Spread the butter mixture into the cross-cuts and rub the remainder over the outside of the cabbage.
  6. Place cabbage in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  7. Baste the cabbage with the accumulated juices from the pot before serving.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and extra Parmesan.
